چکیده (انگلیسی):
Continuing education in the professions has been discussed over the years. This is because the initial training
of professionals may not equip them adequately in the discharge of their duties throughout their working life.
Nursing education in Ghana is organized at the tertiary level by the universities, private institutions and the
hospitals. These institutions train all categories of nurses. The study investigated the continuing education
needs of Ghanaian nurses and the factors that influence their participation in such activities. The study found
out that the needs of the nurses vary according to their area of operation, age, and geographical location. Many
nurses, participate in order to improve upon their skills and competence and to keep their professional
standards. Few were interested in nursing administration and research. Financial support for participation is
provided by the individuals themselves. The study concluded that continuing professional education for
nurses is determined by the circumstances they find themselves an d interest o continue to be abreast of new
developments in the field of medicine and nursing.
